Fibre composition, GSM, breathability, moisture management, shrink resistance and colour fastness — explained with real numbers.
Fibre composition
Cotton brings softness and absorbency; polyester adds strength, shape retention and quick drying. Blends are chosen for the job, not for cost.
GSM (grams per m²)
Fabric weight. 160–180 GSM feels light and airy; 220–260 GSM feels substantial, drapes better and lasts longer.
Durability & strength
Longer staple fibres and ring-spun yarns give higher tensile strength and resist pilling after repeated washes.
Breathability
Pique and single-jersey knits trap less heat; open structures move air and moisture away from the body.
Softness
Combing removes short fibres; ring spinning and finishing (compacting, bio-wash) create a smoother hand-feel.
Moisture management
Cotton absorbs, polyester wicks. Blends balance comfort in Indian summers with fast drying.
Shrink resistance
Compacting / sanforising pre-shrinks fabric before cutting so garments keep their size after washing.
Colour fastness
Reactive dyes bond chemically with cotton fibres — graded on a 1–5 scale for washing, rubbing and light.
Manufacturing process
Fibre → yarn → knit → dye → finish → cut → stitch → inspect. Each step is a quality gate.
